(High-Collectible) ("Great Lakes Collection") This deeply ingenious Caucasian Lesghi, with its wonderfully saturated array of resonant hues and esoteric symbolism, illustrates an aesthetically unique cultural package distilled over the generations in a woven work of art. It is emblazoned with a trio of retro-pixellated “Stars of Wisdom” with “The Four Directions” arrow motifs pushing diagonally into the surrounding halo. When combined, these parts yield the beloved emblem of the Lesghi people. A panoply of prized connoisseur attributes are present in this intensely creative 19th-century piece at once so profoundly archetypal and strikingly modern. The interstitial spaces of the deep royal blue field are home to sunburst rosettes, quartered solar disks, and other endearing forms. In the luminous lava red main border, a punchy interconnected pattern of dynamically abstract perching birds works its way around the composition flanked by starflower and leaf sequence reduced to their most elemental.
