("New Arrivals Gallery") This is a rug of exceptional rarity and a sublime virtuoso interpretation of the fabled “Garden of Paradise” motif, so beloved by the artists and weavers throughout the sphere of Persian rug-making influence. The Bakhtiari tribe are masters of creative prowess and reinvention that took on a dazzling array of patterns and colors. Beneath a sculpted archway, an exquisitely rendered tree grows skyward from a central vase, laden with a sparkling assortment of ebullient blossoms. A garden wonderland of slender cypress trees, flowering stalks, grape bushes, and fruiting pear and pomegranate trees ornament the periphery. On the outskirts of the sylph-like boughs, curious birds wander, perch, and prance. The border features a hypnotic pattern of palmettes and quatrefoil flowerheads between feathery undulating vinery. Above, two reticulated peacocks appear to be speaking to one another via the beautifully flowing Kufic script held in a cartouche. The variety of colors is surprisingly wide, with luminous carnelian, blazing buttercup, soft sea foam, and jungle greens orchestrated by a deep Aegean blue. Its exceedingly fine weave and medium pile condition add immeasurably to this treasure’s singularity.
