("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2023") The revered Town of Bakshaish, situated in the mountainous region of northwest Persia, is known for weavings using abstract patterns and bold geometric designs. They also successfully employ the use of negative space which allows for a spacious artistry and visual enjoyment of each individually rendered design. Here, upon an alabaster ground, rests the renowned Harshang allover floral pattern featuring detailed over scale palmettes, flowerheads, and blossoms, loosely held together by a latticework of finely rendered vinery. The palmettes in particular consist of multilayered petals in tones of sapphire, walnut, wheat, ruby red, and coral. The lightness of the alabaster ground provides the perfect juxtaposition to the colorful flora, while the narrowness of the borders allows for greater room for the field’s artistic spaciousness.
