("New Arrivals Gallery") The artisans responsible for this masterpiece Serapi rug prospered in their craft by synthesizing design elements from both the neighboring Caucasian tribal weaving traditions to the north and the elegant court carpets from the city of Tabriz to the east in entirely original ways. A four-part medallion contains flounced flowerheads trimmed in burnished gold. The field is adorned with layered buds and blossoms in contrasting light and dark outlines, creating an advancing and receding effect. Its highly innovative yet classic pattern’s large-scale format of stylized botanical elements relays a sense of expansiveness, and the crisp clarity of the highly accomplished draftsmanship is impressive to behold. Delicate abrash color-shifting striations imbue this visual stunner with eye-pleasing textures throughout the entire surface. Its rarely-found 5x6 dimension makes it perfect for that problematic floor space and not too large to display proudly on the wall. This rug’s condition is superb, with even pile glistened by a slight patina that heightens every color, line, and shape.
