("New Arrivals Gallery") A 19th-century version of the 16th-century “cloud collar” inspired medallion is the grand, organic centerpiece of this distinguished Tabriz from the master designer, Hadji Jallili. Exuding tremendous harmony and balance, this carpet’s superlative craftsmanship and artistic intuition are revealed in tremendous eloquence of line and exquisite layering of breathtakingly fluid botanical motifs. Though the weavers accomplished the classic court carpet symmetry with aplomb, the impressionistic nuance reveals itself in the piece’s slight individual flourishes, which are revealed to the curious observer. Eye-pleasing contrasts are amplified by a desert-hued palette of burnt copper, parchment, charcoal blue, brass tones, and even subtle gradients of celadon that do not fail to elicit admiration. The border features a fantastical botanical sequence of chiseled peonies, fan palmettes, pairs of feathery cypresses, and various-sized flowerheads. Even, medium pile throughout boosts the clarity of the designs through a gentle patina.
