(Connoisseur-Caliber) This excellent rug is a fascinating window into the myriad Malayer visual styles, revealing the heights of artistic and emotional expression occasionally reached by this accomplished weaving group. In what is essentially a painterly abstraction of the ever-popular Herati pattern, aqueous rosettes seem to gently expand and contract with the ebbs and flows of the emerald green vinery. Elongated horizontal leaves are like platforms from which interconnected blossoms burst forth in sparkling hues of azure, rose, teal, and cinnabar. The camelhair ground has an unusual luminosity and is masterfully abrash-enhanced to introduce skillfully delineated tonal variations that greatly enhance the rug’s sense of movement, depth, and visual interest. The suite of borders is a festive blooming vine motif on a royal blue background flanked by flashy sprouting boteh seeds in single file. Superb heavier pile and otherwise fantastic condition wins the day with this 4x6 village treat.
