("New Arrivals Gallery") Hailing from the upper elevations of the towering Caucasus Mountains, this enchanting antique Kazak rug was not woven for the commercial market but is a personal rug used within the family or perhaps a special recipient within the larger community. A column of interconnected medallions descends the carnelian red field, becoming gradually larger and more defined in shape. Luminous blue latch-hook outlines are drawn in a wonderfully whimsical free-form. The palette of mellow Kazak colors shows a vibrant saturation of naturally sourced primary hues plus a superb emerald green that was highly precious and difficult to achieve in semi-nomadic Kazak weaving groups. Its distinctive border pattern has a modernist art edge about it, and one can almost imagine the orderly geometric forms whizzing around the perimeter of the field. Constructed of exceptionally durable mountain wool, this unusual woven treasure would add an intriguing aesthetic to traditional decor or effortlessly harmonize with myriad post-modern decorative schemes.
