("New Arrivals Gallery") Senneh pile rugs and kilims, handwoven mainly by Kurdish tribespeople who lived in western Persia, are prized for their delicate patterns, fineness of weave, and masterful dye work, yielding some of the most sophisticated antique town carpets during the 19th century. This majestic example successfully combines larger geometric motifs with smaller refined patterns while juxtaposing deeper color tones against lighter ones. The striking deep indigo multifaceted medallion encloses an inner reserve filled with a centerpiece that appears again in the spacious field indicating ordinal directions. The vertical pendants resemble royal scepters all resting upon a finely striated abrashed alabaster ground. Each of the four corner spandrels are worlds of their own with enticingly organic Dali-esque flower forms.
