("New Arrivals Gallery") Expressing its village origins through an earthy, home-brewed color palette and panoply of hyper-stylized natural forms, this Bakshaish rug also checks all the boxes of functionality with heavier pile and versatile dimensions. A leafing 'Tree of Life' at its center supporting a cadre of symbolic botanical motifs, a repeating combination of willow and cypress trees alongside in pairs. Near the vertical perimeter of the field, tulip flowers perch atop delicate sprigs, interspersed by geometricized bouquets in handled vases. Tucked into the interstitial spaces are charming avian forms in little white boots like diminutive hieroglyphs and tiny luminescent flowers sprouting from the carnelian ground. The weaver chose to apply various hues from different dye batches through gentle chromatic shifts and bolder striations in a technique known as abrash. This guarantees additional visual depth and movement overall and that the lucky owner of this piece will never grow bored looking at it. Its robust construction ensures many decades ahead, even in areas of heavier foot traffic.
