124cm x 175cm
3rd Quarter, 19th Century

In this singular, ingenious rug ideal for display on the floor or wall, two painstakingly detailed, golden cypress trees frame a pictorial garden, with its vase, flowering trees, and trout swimming at its arch. Such striking creativity is the hallmark of Tabriz carpets woven during the 19th century by master designer, Hadji Jallili, where such flights of creative fancy are seamlessly and subtly integrated into highly refined, elegant Court designs. In this inspired piece, selective abrash color striation is used to impart a sense of light and shadow falling on the scene while the high contrast golden twin trees woven at the edges of the field stunningly contain its intense botanical activity.
