(Connoisseur-Caliber) (“New Acquisition Sampling") As well as being extremely distinctive artistically, this rug's antique ivory field, understated palette and versatile squarish shape make it a hard-to-find, tremendously decorative offering. This very early rendition of the classical Herati all-over pattern is enlivened by continual shifts in the size and structure of its delicate latticework and its seemingly unending subtle changes of hue. Note the asymmetry of color placement within the field, an intentional aesthetic choice that invests the repeating pattern with whimsy and surprise. Its glowing patina is a great part of this rug's allure, offering the nuance of delicate, impossible-to-reconstruct 160 year old color.
