AGRA, Northern India
10' 10" x 17' 6" Circa 1900 Price: $38,000
(High-Decorative)
An interesting mix of large reserves and lush floral splendor, this over sized Agra is reminiscent of a French Aubusson carpet, or Persian Laver Kirman. It radiates a unique nobility due in large part to its purple, lavender, and celadon color palette and very possibly was commissioned by a person of wealth or position and would today literally transform a significant room with its inspired visage. The primary border offers an exquisite inversion of the colors used in the field, with a background of lavender and the motifs woven in camel-toned thread.
