TRIPLE MEDALLION FACHRALO KAZAK, Southern Central Caucasian
5' 4" x 7' 10"
163cm x 239cm
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
(High-Collectible)
This large area size antique Caucasian from the high mountain tradition of Kazak offers a superb example of this tradition's ability to create a spectacular color palette and vibrant bold pattern display. Stunningly graphic, the potent triple medallion format dominates the field, surrounded by an equally graphic zigzag oak leaf and chalice border design that is discreetly suggestive of their mountainous origins. Offering numerous Kazak symbols, the wheel of life appears in the center of each medallion, amidst a masterful abrash. Two horses, one saddled, at the center of this rug’s powerful depiction of cosmic forces, could invite interpretation, possibly commenting on the extent of man’s control over his role in life. The pile condition of this piece is excellent.,
