BIDJOV SHIRVAN, Southeast Caucasian
3' 9" x 4' 6"
114cm x 137cm
(High-Collectible) ("Spring 2019 New Acquisitions") This is rare, mid-19th century Caucasian tribal rug epitomizes the beloved Bidjov Shirvan style. Its striated, time-softened watermelon red field distinguishes it, as traditionally this regional design is shown on a blue background. Its delicacy of line and the emotive quality of its exceedingly wide color palette accentuated by potent sky blues is utterly captivating. Evocative spacing of the signature motifs, the mark of an earlier rug, surround the integrated central vertical axis of sunburst and ram's horn device while a subtle abrash adds depth and movement to its balanced, clearly rendered archetypal motifs. This very special piece is in very good condition relative to its age. Learn About This Rug Type
