Late 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This delightfully energetic rug offers a generous display of Caucasian artistry. On a continually striated reserve of illuminated aquamarine, cobalt and azure blues float three naïve linked medallions, each drawn entirely freehand in outline and proportion. Around them a rich tapestry of flashing coin shapes, unusually deconstructed and creatively colored, many with a single star motif fill the remainder of the reserve. This amazing, inventive field is framed with the often-used chalice and oakleaf border design. As with other deeply personal tribal weavings, tiny diamond ornaments are scattered along the edges, imparting a sense of spontaneity and asymmetry to the design. Learn About This Rug Type
