An exquisitely regal showpiece as either wall art or on the floor, this painterly exemplar of the cherished Tehran weaving group exhibits a consummate refinement and compositional mastery. Like an ornate honey-gold courtyard fountain viewed from the air, glittering shades of cornflower spill from the Rococo medallion into meandering waterways that irrigate a profusion of crystalline garden blooms across a luxuriant garnet toned reserve. Obviously woven by a woman with a profound mastery of color, its primary border of lyrically drawn lotus and peony flowers are swathed in continually color-changing braided vinery, in rich shades of blue from a deep royal to rich cerulean, highlighted by olive, peach hues, and sparingly used pear green. Exceptionally fine of weave with heavier pile, this astonishingly well-preserved rug is illumined by the lanolin-rich lamb’s wool so essential to achieve the greatest heights of Persian weaving.
