Late 19th Century

In a quite successful emulation of Bijar rugs from earlier in the 19th century, an indication of the continuity of beloved motifs this village weaver honorably upheld, a panoply of uniquely stylized botanical elements and inspired, free-spirited ornaments abound. For lovers of folk art, the piece demonstrates a supreme level of artistic balance and harmony among the vertical and horizontal asymmetrical design elements. Intrepidly shifting from mocha to khaki, the ample striations of undyed camelhair in the spacious reserve assist the pastoral sense of this artwork. The medallion cleanly etches into the sparkling royal azure surround adding tremendous visual intrigue. Within it resides a unique galaxy of archetypical blossoms, boteh, and magical charms, co-habiting with emerald cypress forms and a family of diminutive peafowl. Heavier pile adds practical allure to this effortlessly charming small rug.
