The location of Veramin, southeast of Tehran, has long been an illustrious melting pot for a variety of peoples bringing with them numerous weaving traditions and unassailably exceptional craftsmanship. At once dazzling yet exhibiting a rhythmic calming effect, this over 22ft long runner's mosaic-like field displays a grand unifying theme of blossoming shrubs in a plethora of glittering color tones, ranging from forest green to auburn and sky blue to bright gold. Close inspection reveals at least six distinct shrub motifs that together present a pleasing complexity. This patterning is most often found in rugs from Joshegan and is rarely found in other styles, making this piece surprising and quite special. Adorning the parchment border is a striking daffodil and leaf design borrowed from the Bakshaish lexicon. Veramin runners are extremely few and far between, as is their unusually long dimensions and unusually good condition.
