This eminently collectible jewel from an Arab sub-tribe of the Khamseh Confederation, expresses the unreserved animation of its single weaver-dyer, brilliantly executing the complex large medallion format of her tribe's signature design. A balanced yet organically drawn hexagonal medallion is bursting with a galaxy of bright, bold blooms and sprinkled with esoteric tribal ornaments. What at first glance seems to be a riot of color is a precisely measured and combined palette of potent earthy tonalities and radiant blue-greens, illuminated by a superior grade of lustrous wool. In exceptional condition at such a great age, this intensely personal 19th-century rug exemplifies the artistry and craftsmanship informed by a proud nomadic tradition.
