Veramin, an ancient cultural center of Kurdistan, is famed for finely woven, jewel-toned all-over patterned rugs. With ever-changing open-faced rosettes and unexpected color shifts (known as “abrash”) infusing great vitality, this 120-year-old example is splendidly choreographed, offering a cohesive blend of harmonious color and rhythmic decoration. On a template of interlocking ovals that create diamonds between them, crimson poppy rosettes, slender palmettes, and ivory almond blossoms form a beguiling repeat. A cerulean blue field becomes an extraordinarily graceful backdrop to crisply etched botanical designs. The equally elegant border is sensitively striated, completing this rare and luxurious exemplar. This stellar example comes to us in wonderful, heavier pile condition.
