MOHTASHAM KASHAN, Central Persian
4' 5" x 6' 9"
135cm x 206cm
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
(High-Collectible)
This High-Collectible exemplar of the Mohtasham Kashan tradition reflects the revered artistry of this style that integrates delicacy and profusion, multiple proportioning of the elements, and a fully conceived and accomplished color palette. Its elongated, fluted reserve glows with a unique citrine striation holding a teal green diamond centerpiece and teardrop pendants that extend almost to the borders. The artisanal chiseled lines of each multifaceted botanical element are interconnected by wire-thin filigree tendrils. Dahlias, lotuses, and fully open roses command the entrancing hierarchy of the profuse flora presented, each blossom a jewel unto itself, its glistening lamb's wool illuminating combined tonalities. A firebrick red main border encourages every silhouetted flower to sparkle along the framing. Astonishingly, this piece is in virtually full pile condition resulting from generations of tremendous care.
