This stellar over a century-old 10x13 example portrays uncommon and quite scintillating shades of deep azure in its corner spandrels in place of the classical ivory corner pieces. Also noteworthy in the ornate, balanced medallion is the use of ice blue transforming into luminous sky blue, and rarely used emerald green, juxtaposed with shades of rich madder red, burnished golds, and coral which greatly vitalize each other in turn. The masterful use of abrash color shifts adds an especially pleasing depth to the overall composition, as does its extremely durable wool and especially good condition.
