(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") This slightly long rug from the village of Gashad in the Shirvan district of Aksu, where Bidjov rugs are also woven, is several generations older than the next oldest example on the market. Its sumptuous yet subtle wide palette of colors and an equally magnificent treatment of the Gashad design have created a standout. Two architectural medallions alternate with smaller eccentric winged devices surrounded by a vast assortment of visual charms. Diagonal "branches" jut from each large decagon, capturing an array of ornamental prizes that appear to descend from above. The Pinwheel inner border and Wheel of Life outer border are particularly fetching. Equally impactful are the chiaroscuro contrasts of celadon, cinnabar, ivory, walnut, cornflower, and apricot, among other shades amplifying this artwork's thrilling chromatic dimensionality.
