Whimsical drawing of an entirely folkloric design and a superb balance of delectable natural color invest this entrancing runner with an enduring aesthetic appeal that is magnetic today as when it was woven. Innovatively combining two of the Caucasian weavers' favorite visual paradigms, diagonal stripes are combined with a mesmerizing honeycomb lattice pattern to stunning effect. Each compartment contains carefully rendered cherubic boteh, poppy blossom stars, sprouting shrubs, and seahorse-shaped glyphs. Spontaneous male and female figures in Caucasian costume pose akimbo along the perimeter. Proudly exotic hues of guava, yarrow, lobelia, and amaranth, to name a few, further demonstrate the artist-weaver's imagination and innovation. An adventurous border shows tethered pairs of spiky tulips and minor bands simplified to the most communicative botanical geometry. Its superb condition belies its great age.
