(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") Majestic in every respect, this astonishingly refined 19th-century Motasham Kashan blends exceedingly original and entirely virtuosic color choices in a singular allover pattern that could have been master crafted for a Renaissance era Venetian masquerade. A cascade of intricately stylized interconnected lozenge forms based in Pompeiian red and scalloped medallions interact with one another through a sense of compression and expansion. Within each lozenge are elaborate azure lotuses and other exuberantly kaleidoscopic blossoms, garlands, and palmettes. All display a mind-boggling array of rarely seen hues, painstakingly juxtaposed for maximum visual impact and successfully allow each impressive color to shine on the clear ivory ground individually. The deep indigo main border incorporates eye-catching overscale snowflake flowerheads, flame palmettes, and reticulated trophy-shaped tulips. Flower-studded connective tendrils lead to crystalline starbursts in the corners that resemble girih tiles used in courtyard fountains. Its shimmering, unrivaled Mohtasham wool allows the entrancing palette and aesthetic potency of this matchless rug's botanical imagery to become even more poignant and captivating.
