Offering an utterly fascinating Heriz variation from the folk art pattern language of this northwest Persia style, this ivory ground village carpet presents lively color and entrancing patterning. Punchy flowerheads alternate between cruciform and lozenge shapes emblazoned on an implied lattice-work configuration. Each motif is drawn with beautiful nuance, discernible by the careful viewer. Minor florets swirl in the interstitial spaces while bejeweled tones of green chalcedony, sapphire, and coral sparkle. The creative shading of every hue reflects unflagging attention to detail. The Pompeiian red border of knotted rosettes, bearing influence from the Far East, is accompanied by wonderfully graphic serrated leaves. At 120-years-of-age, this singular room-size carpet remains in admirable heavier pile condition.
