7' 7" x 10' 2" (231 x 310cm) 3rd Qtr., 19th C.
(High-Collectible-Plus) This deeply compelling, fabulously preserved, more than 150-year-old Mohtasham Kashan bears tremendous creativity and innovation. It offers great delicacy of design, daring color shifts, and the use of incredibly lustrous lamb's wool woven with an unfathomable level of craftsmanship. Masterful botanic architecture and quiet symmetry heighten the lyrical character of this extraordinarily stately, small room-size carpet, beginning with its perfectly proportioned tripartite layered medallion. The artistry extends into sweeping "fleur-de-lis" pendants that stir a constellation of crystalline blossoming vines that glows against the deepest midnight ground. As if the graceful, painstakingly attended patterning and atypical color combinations were not enough, extremely fine-grained abrash textures and virtuoso hue contrasts transmogrify this weaving into verifiable fine art. Shimmering, unrivaled wool quality allows the evocative hues and elegant, crisp botanical imagery to become even more entrancing.
