(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") Pictorial weavings in Persian carpets are few and far between, making this rarity exceptional with its life-affirming romantic vision of the natural world. During the height of the 16th-century Safavid dynasty, the pictorial rug experienced a surge in popularity as fine carpets were commissioned by royalty. This piece creates immediately memorable images, including a very detailed family of a large noble rooster and two hens in the lower field, a group of horned deer grazing near a lake beneath distant mountains, and a pair of avian couples tending to their egg-filled nests hidden in the higher branches. The deer and birds reside amidst lush foliage, including realistically drawn branches, arrays of colorful blossoms, and wonderfully rendered exotic flowers, all resting on a multi-toned ground of muted chartreuse and soft khaki. Atmospherically, the mood couldn't be more peaceful and benign, impressively capturing that universal moment that nature offers us sometimes when everything is perfect. This startlingly exquisite piece affirms the Laver Kirman reputation for producing highly artistic weavings.
