("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") This room-size Ferahan carpet was woven as the region gained foreign customers for its rugs' commanding medallions and august color palettes. For over 50 years, Ferahan ruled the emerging Persian carpet market, fueled by an experienced consortium of agents, workshop owners, designers, and weavers. The energy around this rising style was electric, akin to a Renaissance for those involved. This piece is an eloquent example of the stirring carpets of the time. A regal ruby-toned medallion of extraordinary proportion rests on an equally sonorous golden ochre field. Finely etched floral sprays and distinctive horizontally aligned leaves rendered in color-striated shades of green float on the expansive field, supported by deep indigo cornerpieces packed with colorful blossoms. The main border is fashioned with an array of delicate floral motifs connected by robust arching vinery in cornflower blue and persimmon.
