(High-Decorative)
As a prime representative of a beloved style from the Sarouk region that emerged in the very early years of the 20th century famous for their glistening surface that is amazingly soft to the touch, this elegant carpet would make the perfect foundation for a truly distinguished room. Surrounding a sandstone-hued scalloped medallion, lush botanical structures radiate from globular vases encircling bountiful bouquets. The sophisticated shapely design of the cornerpieces includes motifs borrowed from the Persian tile playbook and is unexpected as many Mahajiran patterns do not feature spandrels at all. This stunningly luxurious piece offers a dramatic spectrum of resonant and harmonious natural jewel tones that gradually disappeared as the 1930s approached. The shimmering bouquets of individually rendered species are even more engaging through the plethora of skillfully wrought accent colors, including paled apricot, sky blues, bronze, pistachio green, and buttercup. Gracefully balanced with fluidly executed subtle asymmetry, superior craftsmanship redoubles the appeal of this Persian town rug. Happily, it is in superb heavy pile condition at over a century old allowing it to be confidently displayed in heavily trafficked areas.
