Not often found in the Hadji Jallili Tabriz style, garden compartment carpets are more often seen from the Bakhtiari lexicon or even occasional Laver Kirman rugs. Individual niches depict one of an extended series of compelling graphic motifs, each rendered with exacting detail and set within a crocus-adorned framework. This pattern is thought to emulate a bird's eye view of a classical Near Eastern garden design of structured beds and open waterways intersecting at a central fountain. Even this high-resolution image belies the richness of its color palette: a close examination of each panel reveals a fantastic array of nuanced tones inherent in every square. Tree, vase, and colonnaded hanging garden motifs play against saturated burnt carnelian, parchment, dark sienna, and exquisitely soft celadon backgrounds to create a multi-course feast for the eye. Connoisseurs will appreciate not only the painstaking artistry of these miniature scenes, but will revel in this carpet's fantastic condition which will make it an enduring household treasure.
