(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery") The master weavers of 19th-century Konya wove some of the most inventive and surreal designs, as we see here in this thoroughly absorbing collage of scintillating colors and energetic graphic motifs. Ivory chains of flowers form the theme of this composition and infuse the diagonal scarlet red realms in dramatic contrast, immediately drawing the thoughtful eye. The flowers here are drawn with charming stylization, and a variation of this pattern populates the main border, forming a calming counterbalance to the tremendous chromatic energy of the central figures. At the center of this mesmerizing array of concentric Escher-like figure-ground reversals resides a small cruciform medallion of lapis and saffron-orange, floating on a resplendent emerald-green reserve. Stepping back from the composition, the scintillating cornflower blue intriguingly becomes the background upon which the crimson construction is suspended. Whimsically drawn tendrils in a surprisingly subtle contrast sprout from the central medallion along the central axis in the flowing blue background. This highly collectible and historically significant 175-year-old masterwork of all the visual arts is preserved in astounding near-pristine condition.
