(Museum-Quality) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) As a dazzling masterpiece, part of this rug’s roots are buried deep in the region that fostered the powerful and influential Hellenistic city-state of Pergamon. The apex of its central mihrab is built in a stair-step fashion, crowned by an elaborate cruciform with extended ram’s horn motifs. This piece radiates a vivacious irrepressible energy that is a joy to behold. Tyrian purple, an ancient dye made prominent by the Phoenicians of Tyre that remained prized throughout the Mediterranean and rug-making world, is prominent in the animated border suite. Here, ingenious geometric amulets are contrasted with a smoothly flowing, blossoming vine meander and pairs of elemental rosettes. Unfathomably, this rug still boasts heavier pile augmented by the gloriously saturated colors and slight patina of age.
