(Museum-Quality) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025)  In central Anatolia southwest of Kirshehir lies Mudjur (Mucur), a rug-weaving town known for niche rugs with piles of soft shining wool, exceedingly rare to find from the mid-19th century and reputed to be the most chromatically beautiful in all of Turkey. This exquisite case does not disappoint with its Tyrian purple, fuchsia, cerulean, jade green, bright gold, and tiny appearances of other tones. It's astonishing that such a potpourri of intensely dyed colors can be joined with one another in such striking contrasts yet remain a harmonious whole. This exceptional little rug’s hearth-toned mihrab hosts with a slender stalk draped with stylized floral sprigs while scintillating shoots sprout from the inner perimeter. Fascinating mask shapes are found above, ensconced by a polychrome chain of triangular amulets hugging the perimeter of the spandrels. A single horizontal band with arrows and “x’s” completes the window that is framed by a series of narrow stripes studded with tiny roses, a signature motif of the Kirshehir region. The wide outer border is consumed by a potently hued, tile-like floral showcase. Can you spot the clever inconsistency?
