(Museum-Quality) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Across the diverse Anatolian peninsula, a melting pot of tribes enjoyed centuries of cross-cultural pollination and the uncanny ability to transform their sheep’s wool into visual masterpieces. The Yuruk tribespeople, whose name means “wanderers”, are more historically related to the eastern Caucasian tribes than the ubiquitous Turkic communities. This utterly fascinating nomadic piece uses an extraordinarily compelling combination of stylized floral motifs and architectural elements. An arrow-straight, budding Tree of Life ascends the field, culminating in a talisman device and a floating eight-pointed “Star of Wisdom” above the apex. Pairs of extraordinary armatures reach upward with “hands” that appear to reach toward a heavenly abode. These primary designs rest upon a cinnabar background featuring enigmatic touches of intentional color striations known as ‘abrash.' Above, the forest green archway features various amulets that further attempt to ward away misfortune. Copious amounts of saffron were required to dye the wool used in the glowing gold border, where flowerheads parade around the perimeter.
