LAVER KIRMAN, Southeast Persian, 4ft 7in x 6ft 9in, Late 19th Century

Claremont Rug Company is pleased to present this new addition to our featured arrivals collection, a graceful and elegant Laver Kirman antique rug. This innovative Persian Laver Kirman rug presents pairs of oversize boteh, a popular and sought after motif also known as paisley in its most curvilinear form, which in this carpet provide a delicate frame the richly hued, multi-layered central medallion. Symbolizing the cyclical nature of life, this traditional design has been used in works by Persian artists since 200 A.D. The Kirman province of Southeast Persia developed innumerable variations of this boteh theme for their luxurious textiles, which have been traded internationally since the 14th century. The boteh motif was still a major source of inspiration during the Second Golden Age of Persian Weaving when this area rug was woven. A refined, beautifully drawn city rug, it offers highly sophisticated decorative possibilities. The rich palette of this piece glows from within, and the myriad tones of aquamarine, indigo, rose, pomegranate, and apricot would beautifully compliment any room. Its extremely good condition makes it very appropriate for even heavy traffic areas.
