Historical Homes and Prominent Architecture in Houston, Texas

A cornerstone in America’s history, the city of Houston is home to a wide array of eloquently designed historic homes from 19th and early part of the 20th century. Nestled in 10 acres of beautiful green parkland in the heart of downtown Houston, The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park boasts 10 historic structures dating from 1823 to 1905. Each historic structure is authentically restored to reflect its original magnificence. Learn about the families and the lifestyles that inhabited these historic homes – what life was really like in frontier times for early settlers in Houston. The crown jewel of this collection of historic homes featured by the Historical Society is Kellum-Noble House, built in 1847 by Nathaniel Kellum, it is the oldest surviving building constructed in Houston.

The Nicols-Rice-Cherry House is another beautiful historic home that can be found in Sam Houston Park. Built in 1850, many pivotal figures of Houston’s history called the Nicols-Rice-Cherry House home including Ebenezer Nichols, a pivotal businessman in the formation and growth of Houston in its founding days, William Marsh Rice, founder of Rice University in Houston, and Emma Richardson Cherry, one of the earliest professional women artists in Houston.
