This image is from a whole home project in a massive lakeside family compound in the High Sierras. A second style of geometric Persian rug from Heriz that enhances the sitting area pairs well with the bold and colorful antique Bakhtiari carpet under the billiard table, resulting in fascinating interplay between the two. Both of these carpets were woven in village settings and capture a spirited, rustic character. As Oriental carpets spread throughout Europe from the 15th-century, village styles such as these graced many castles as their strength of design was not lost in those enormous structures. This evocative traditional room with its elegant furniture and game table also benefits from the artistry of these geometric styles.
